When businesses like Deloitte, Allianz, and Barclays want to make sure their data processes are legally compliant wherever they operate, they turn to Alyne. The Munich-based company helps businesses digitize their risk-management protocols by identifying overlaps in local and international regulatory codes, compliance gaps, and IT security issues. “That’s why we’re called Alyne,” says CTO Manuel Reil, “because we help your business align towards international standards, state laws, and other regulations.”
From their launch in 2016, Alyne has outsourced their identity services to Auth0. The ability to onboard customers quickly and offer unique security features sets them apart from their non-cloud-based competitors. The result has been an influx of enterprise-level customers and expansive business growth.
Security Experts That Understand the Value of Outsourcing Identity
When Alyne first launched, they knew that identity services were going to be an important component of their business model. Although they were security experts themselves, they realized that outsourcing to Auth0 would give them more flexibility and make them less liable than managing that component in-house. “We always planned from the beginning that we wouldn’t use or implement identity access management components ourselves,” Reil says. “Why? Because we were already experts in identity management. Our personal insight into the complexity, the drivers, and the security penalties made it clear from the beginning that it was too much to take on ourselves. We needed a professional player.”
Alyne Sets Up Identity Verification in As Little As 15 Minutes
Alyne can setup identity verification for even large, enterprise-level customers incredibly quickly with Auth0 — sometimes in as little as 15 minutes. “Our competitors are very on-premise based,” Reil says. “That means it typically takes up to a year, or sometimes multiple years, to get a solution running.”
Quick security onboarding demonstrates the benefits of working with a cloud-based company and can help close sales. “For traditional companies who are a little bit frightened or don't know what to expect from a cloud-enabled business, this could be a breakthrough in opening up the whole world of services available to them,” Reil says.
When Alyne combined their security expertise with Auth0's lightning-fast identity onboarding, they were able to bring in larger, more impressive clients: “Our customers are enterprise customers, and we are cutting short the time to go live, even coping with a whole variety of connections types,” Reil says. “So we have customers using Azure, AD; others use ADFS, and others use now Okta, User Password, MFA. This whole range is supported by Auth0, and this enables us to directly and quickly go live with a customer.”
The result has been huge growth: “Beginning in 2016, we have tripled our revenue every year. We also plan to triple our revenue next year,” Reil adds.
Features Like Anomaly Detection Help Gain Customer Confidence
Alyne uses Auth0 security features such as anomaly detection to proactively identify potential security issues before they become major problems. By adjusting the shield settings, they can screen for suspicious activities, untrustworthy IP addresses, and breached passwords. “That means any account where it was known that its credentials have been leaked in the past by one of those big leaks, these big data leaks, are prevented from logging in,” Reil says. “And this is happening quite often now.” Pointing out these security flaws early on in the onboarding process not only makes the client’s setup more secure but also helps boost Alyne’s authority. “It's adding a lot to the security and also a lot to the perceived security,” Reil says.
Outsourcing Identity Leads to Lower Overhead Despite Rapid Growth
Alyne’s decision to outsource their identity needs to Auth0 lets them scale faster while saving money on support staff.
By not employing their own identity services team, Alyne has sidestepped hiring an entire team of developers, saving the salaries of at least four employees annually. Reil estimates that savings is around €240 ($264) thousand annually. He sees the ROI on using as Auth0 as “hundreds of percent, actually. We're paying not even a quarter of a year to an employee [to manage identity services].” As security experts themselves, the staff are very happy with the arrangement, “No one has ever said, ‘Let's do it on our own.’ That's really one big proof that Auth0 is recognized as a strategic tool,” Reil says.
