In a world where Ops teams are drowning in complex data, Moogsoft gives them a superpower: intelligent observability. The novel AIOps solution collects metrics, logs, and events, then uses artificial intelligence to organize the disparate data sources into actionable alerts and incident reports.
This is a vital service for companies with vast amounts of data to sift through. “It’s no longer possible for a single human being to understand what’s going on with all these systems,” says Russ Smith, Director of Product Engineering at Moogsoft, “you need tools to help you. We fill that gap.”
Moogsoft is undergoing a period of rapid growth. In the last two years, the company redefined observability and AIOps to become a cloud-based intelligent observability solution. As the product evolves, it has increased access to troves of valuable customer data. A security breach could be fatal for Moogsoft’s reputation.

Moogsoft Needed SSO to Build Customer Confidence
The Moogsoft Observability Cloud operates on a free-trial-to-subscription basis, making convenient yet secure social sign-on crucial to their business model. “We want to lower the barrier or remove it altogether for people to use us,” says Smith. They needed a secure sign-on solution to make trial users feel confident in sharing their proprietary data.
In Smith’s view, customer login is the front door of their app — it is crucial for customer confidence. “Security is a first-class citizen. When we’re thinking about designing anything, we’re thinking about designing our front-door experience.”
Despite the growing need for secure Single Sign On (SSO), Moogsoft knew they didn’t want to waste their engineers’ valuable time building an in-house solution. “We want our engineers to focus on building new products,” says Smith, “not having to deal with problems that have already been solved, like authentication and authorization.”
Instead, they decided to invest in a proven authentication solution.

Moogsoft Enabled Auth0 in Just Two Weeks
Moogsoft chose Auth0 because it is simple, secure, and straightforward. “We needed something that scaled, and we needed something secure,” says Smith. “Auth0 checked all those boxes.”
The most important part of their calculation: Auth0’s security chops. Moogsoft wanted a solution they could rest easy with, knowing their brand was safe. “We don’t want to be on the news because Customer A was able to log in and see Customer B’s data or some hacker in their mom’s basement was able to break into Moogsoft’s front door and gain access to sensitive customer information.”
Moogsoft installed Auth0 over a single two-week sprint. “It’s a simple-to-use product. We can enable the things we need with a click instead of spending two weeks writing custom code. We wanted a secure solution we didn’t have to think about.”

An Authentication Pivot Boosted Signups
Smith estimates that to build a system themselves would have taken two engineers two months of work, versus just two weeks with Auth0. The quicker option saved them 50% of the installation costs, and possibly more when you factor in continual maintenance. More importantly, Auth0’s fast installation freed up engineers to do more valuable work on their evolving products. “Over the last quarter,” says Smith, “we were able to build out more maturity for our event workflow engine and our data workflows, instead of dedicating resources to authentication, access, and all the things Auth0 does for us.”
Auth0’s flexibility and ease of use also let Moogsoft pivot to meet the needs of their evolving client base. When marketing realized that Moogsoft was missing out on tons of potential signups by not enabling Google sign-on, engineers were able to make the switch with the click of a button. The change led to a huge influx of signups. “We enabled social logins in an hour,” says Smith. “Now, about 60% of our signups use Google, and that translates into revenue.”
