PERSOL CAREER CO., Ltd., widely known for its job search service "doda," is a human resources service company with the mission to "GIVE PEOPLE THE POWER TO OWN THEIR WORK-LIFE." The company aims for a society where working individuals can proactively select their careers and lives of their own will. Beyond that, they envision the realization of a "new way of working" where work and life are integrated.

Supporting this vision is their HR Tech initiative, which combines the human resources field with technology. Centered on data-driven decision-making using data analysis and AI, efficiency and automation of business processes, and security that emphasizes personal data protection and privacy, the company also develops services for enterprises that support everything from defining job requirements and talent sourcing to screening, offer management and onboarding, and retention support. While these services utilize Okta Customer Identity to organize the ID management foundation, ID management that does not fragment the user experience had become a significant challenge for their services aimed at job seekers.

To support the cultivation of "career ownership" for each individual, personalized proposals are essential. To achieve this, the company’s BITA (Business IT Architect) department is currently building a foundation that enables proposals based on user behavior data. The key initiative for this was the ID integration of "doda" and "doda X" using Auth0.

Urgency in ID Integration and Security Amidst a Growing Job Market

Against the backdrop of a labor shortage caused by a declining population and rising demand for AI and DX talent, the job market has become increasingly active, and it is no longer rare for individuals to change jobs multiple times throughout their lives. At PERSOL CAREER, users of "doda" often move on "to doda X" as their career stages evolve. Consequently, the company sought ways to increase the value provided over a long-term customer lifetime.

However, despite sharing the "doda" brand, user IDs were managed separately at the time. This made it difficult to track the behavioral history of the same individual across services, creating a challenge in proposing the optimal solution for each person.

Furthermore, for a platform providing services based on user information, authentication security is a top priority. The department had long shared a strong sense of urgency regarding security. At that time, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for "doda" was limited to email-based authentication, and login alert functions were not yet implemented. "doda X" had neither MFA nor login alerts. Developing these features on an in-house ID management platform would require significant time and labor. As a result, Mr. Jogen recalls, "There was a gap between our ideal state and reality."

As the risk of data breaches and leaks increases annually, strengthening security features is essential for a company handling vast amounts of human resources data. While they were considering a transition from their in-house platform to an IDaaS that offers the latest features without the maintenance burden, a security incident occurred at a competitor. This served as a catalyst, rapidly accelerating the move toward IDaaS adoption.

Choosing Auth0 Over In-House Systems Based on Feature Richness

PERSOL CAREER had already been using Auth0 for several years for "HiPro," a service for side jobs and freelancers, and its positive reputation had reached Jogen’s team. When introducing a new ID management platform for "doda" and "doda X," they conducted a neutral comparison between other IDaaS providers and open-source software (OSS) solutions. After evaluating various factors—including security, feasibility of required functions, and maintenance support—Auth0 was selected.

One major advantage of IDaaS is the ability to implement security updates without downtime. With OSS, developing new features is labor-intensive, and updates often require system suspension, incurring engineer costs and burden. "The fact that IDaaS allows for updates without stopping the service while reducing the maintenance burden was a major advantage," says Jogen.

The decision to adopt Auth0 specifically was driven by its superior functionality and stability compared to other providers. A decisive factor was the wealth of security features that would be difficult to develop in-house. Jogen highlights Auth0 Brute-Force Protection as an example. This feature not only detects brute-force attacks targeting specific accounts but also blocks suspicious IP addresses and notifies the user. Having these features equipped by default was highly attractive, as they could be utilized immediately after migration.

Implementing Detailed Custom Functions with Okta’s Support

To facilitate the implementation, Jogen’s team utilized Okta Professional Services, which provides support from planning and product selection to implementation. Since "doda" and "doda X" required many unique built-in functions, Jogen reflects that "the support at various stages was extremely helpful."

"For instance, we needed to implement detailed authentication logic, such as the ability to turn off Single Sign-On (SSO) during automatic login or forcing a logout when terms of service are updated. We also had to address different behaviors between websites and apps, as well as between iOS and Android. Furthermore, to run multiple domains on a single authentication platform, we had to customize cross-domain tracking in Google Analytics. Being able to proceed with professional expertise in these various scenarios was very reassuring."

Following approximately one and a half years of careful implementation with Okta’s support, the ID integration of "doda" and "doda X" was completed in 2025. This enabled SSO for both services and introduced MFA. By designing a seamless user interface where the ID migration is completed simply by logging in—without requiring a dedicated migration page—the company successfully minimized user drop-off during the platform renewal.

ID Integration Connects Scattered Data, Accelerating Strategies to Maximize Lifetime Value (LTV)

Four months since the implementation of Auth0, "doda" and "doda X" are successfully establishing a more secure user environment. The security features sought before implementation have met Jogen’s expectations; he evaluates that "as long as we use Auth0 appropriately, the likelihood of delays or omissions in security updates related to authentication is extremely low." He adds, "I believe it is a very significant achievement to have provided a comfortable, stress-free login experience for users while maintaining a high level of security."

Jogen’s ultimate goal is to build an environment where solutions can be easily explored based on data. The ID integration of "doda" and "doda X" serves as the vital first step in solidifying that foundation.

Moving forward, the company plans to integrate IDs for other services, such as "HiPro" for side jobs and freelancers and "PERSOL MIRAIZ" for career design consulting. This will accelerate their ability to offer comprehensive service proposals tailored to each user's unique situation. Beyond these technical milestones, the ultimate goal is to realize a society where every individual can exercise career ownership and a future where 100 people can achieve 100 different, diverse career paths.
