LONDON – Oct. 21, 2020 – The Auth0 Identity Platform, a product unit within Okta, today celebrates its valued customer, Signify, makers of Philips Hue, as the winner of the prestigious KCLive Award: Customer Authentication at KuppingerCole Consumer Technology World 2020.
Presented by KuppingerCole Analysts AG, the KCLive Awards honor outstanding projects, standards, or people in the field of identity management, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence. Signify is being recognized for its use of Auth0 within Philips Hue to build trust and focus on innovation for several million users of the Hue Cloud, the IoT platform that allows consumers to control their home lighting system.
Manufacturing has long been about widgets and margins. But with Philips Hue, Signify now develops experiences on top of its consumer lighting at scale. This strategy required redeploying significant R&D engineering resources, including teams dedicated to maintaining Signify’s homegrown sign-in logic in the Google Cloud Platform. Signify freed up their developers to work on lighting innovation by replacing this component with Auth0. The team then easily fortified its Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM) project with Anomaly Detection, an Auth0 feature that blocks suspicious login activity to protect customers from identity-related attacks.
“Advances in LED have given us the ability to make lights ‘smart,’ and there’s a lot more to explore when it comes to connected home lighting systems and the IoT,” said Etienne Bertou, principal cloud architect, Philips Hue at Signify. “With best-in-class authentication in place, we can focus on pushing the boundaries of innovation and bring new lighting experiences to market that improve consumer productivity, health, and entertainment.”
Auth0’s CIAM solution met all key objectives so that Signify’s R&D management and engineering no longer had to choose between being best-in-class in authentication or rapidly delivering roadmapped features that improve lighting experience for customers.
“Innovation is what happens when you can focus on prioritizing experiences – and authentication just works,” said Steven Rees-Pullman, SVP International at Auth0. “Secure, scalable lighting experiences from Signify are helping to make our lives safer and more enjoyable, businesses more productive, and cities more liveable. Many congratulations to Signify for this well-deserved award!”
