Naranja Speeds 'Digital Evolution' with Auth0
Credit card giant's growing ecosystem allows access to a suite of digital products
Naranja is a customer-oriented company known for being the leading credit card issuer in Argentina. For over 30 years, Naranja has been driven by the same objective: making life easier for its customers, merchants and employees.
Argentina’s leading credit card provider, Naranja, serves more than 5 million customers. As the company has grown, it has integrated new business models, expanding Naranja’s reach beyond credit cards. New verticals have been added to provide Naranja customers with a broad suite of products and services, including financing, payments, travel, media, entertainment, insurance, merchant services, and a marketplace to link buyers and sellers of goods.
“We are focusing on consolidating our Naranja ecosystem,” explains Javier Voos, Head of Engineering at Naranja. "The main idea behind the Naranja ecosystem is to provide the best experience — to our customers, making sure that our digital platform provides all the resources that an online business need for success; and hence support the ecosystem evolution.”
According to Voos, providing this broader ecosystem of services required a complete digital evolution. But the benefit to cardholders will extend beyond improved access: the company now has the ability to gather the information needed to personalize its offerings and better serve the needs of its customers.
“We are rethinking and moving our products to the digital space, increasing our ecosystem organisms and their interactions exponentially,” explains Voos. “For us, all the initiatives related to Naranja’s digital evolution must be customer-centric providing an outstanding user experience based on usability, personalization, and awesome response time.”
Naranja Improves Development Speed, Decreases Time to Market With Auth0
Originally starting with Auth0 to service end users in their credit card and wallet apps, Voos and his team are now expanding their usage into B2B integrations. Naranja quickly realized that bringing multiple businesses under a single digital umbrella would require strong authentication services — after all, an online ecosystem ceases to be convenient if customers are forced to log in and out of multiple accounts to make use of its services. The Naranja team decided that it made sense to turn to an outside expert for authentication services, freeing up time, budget, and personnel to focus on Naranja’s expanding business offerings.
“When we started this mission, we needed to have all the security concerns already solved by another company,” says Voos. “We don't want to spend budget on trying to develop those features in-house so we were looking for a global leader for Identity-as-a-Service solutions. This is the reason that we went with Auth0, to solve the authentication challenges for our customers and B2B integrations.”
Danilo Asis, solution architect, Naranja, adds “Auth0 gave our company the tools to secure the access to our API for first- and third-party consumers, in a way that can scale through time and put us in a better position to ally with new partners and work our way to a fully functional Naranja API Market.”
Allowing Auth0 to handle identity services has enabled Naranja’s own developers to focus on serving the company’s core business needs, keeping the development pipeline moving quickly.
"In our projects, the main priority is time to market,” explains Lucas Archina, architect, Naranja. “Auth0 helped us focus on delivering functionality, knowing that authentication management was implemented in the best way, being secure, scalable and with awesome performance. We were able to get the best of our development time."
Auth0 Universal Login & Rules Enable Deployment Across Business Units
With a new identity solution in place, Voos began taking advantage of its extensibility by replicating the login structure for different business units. “Auth0 Universal Login and Rules features were very important and cost efficient for us because we can do this kind of particular login for each ecosystem member.” He points out features like these are key factors that separate Auth0 and add value for his team.
In the end, perhaps the most important differentiator for Naranja was Auth0’s ability to provide a customized solution and ongoing, highly personalized service.
“The main difference between Auth0 and the other competitors: since the beginning Auth0 was building a particular solution for Naranja, and not an out-of-the-box solution,” says Voos. “It's not just during the presales timeframe. They ask about the challenges we face and quickly work to come up with solutions. At the end, we are just one team working together on Naranja’s digital evolution.”
