Auth0 now supports CIMD with dynamic registration in Early Access. MCP clients and AI agents can connect to your tenant without an administrator registering each one first.
With Client ID Metadata Document (CIMD), a client identifies itself with an HTTPS URL that points to a metadata document: its name, redirect URIs, and supported authentication methods. With dynamic registration, Auth0 retrieves and validates that document during the OAuth authorization flow, so the client is discovered and registered just in time.
Key highlights
- Just-in-time registration: Auth0 uses the client ID metadata URL to retrieve and validate metadata when authorization starts. No pre-registration needed.
- Current metadata: Changes to a client's metadata and public signing keys are picked up without manual syncing.
- Central controls with Application Profiles (Early Access): Manage refresh token policies, DPoP, and Organizations for dynamically registered CIMD clients in one place.
- Need an approval step? CIMD also supports manual pre-registration: an administrator submits the metadata URL, reviews it, and approves the client before it is created.
